SEO Agency or
SEO Freelancer?

For most Singapore SMEs the honest answer is scope, not quality. A good freelancer and a good agency do the same core work; what differs is how much of it gets covered, and what happens in the months nobody is watching.

The short answer

Hire a freelancer if you have one clear job with a defined end — a technical clean-up, a keyword map, a site migration — and someone in-house who can brief and review the work.

Hire an agency if organic search has to keep producing enquiries month after month, and nobody internally has time to own it. The deciding factor is continuity, not talent.

When Each One Is The Right Call

Both columns are real situations. Neither is a trap.

A freelancer fits when…

  • The job has a defined finish line — an audit, a migration, a one-off fix.
  • Someone internal can write briefs and check the work landed.
  • You want a named individual doing the work, not a rotating team.
  • Budget is genuinely tight and you accept narrower coverage for it.
  • You already have a developer who can ship the changes they recommend.

An agency fits when…

  • Search has to produce enquiries every month, not once.
  • Nobody internally has the hours to brief, review and chase.
  • The work spans writing, technical and reporting at the same time.
  • You need cover when one person is on leave, ill, or moves on.
  • You want the same reporting arriving whether or not you ask for it.

What Actually Differs

Coverage

One person is strongest in one discipline. SEO needs writing, technical work and measurement running together; a solo operator has to choose which to do this month.

Continuity

The most common way SEO stalls is not bad strategy. It is a quiet month — illness, a bigger client, a career change — with nobody to pick it up.

Accountability

Ask either one to show which pages produced enquiries last month. The answer tells you more about how you will be served than any proposal does.

Six Questions To Ask Either One

The answers separate a real operator from a reporting habit.

  1. Which pages produced enquiries last month — not clicks, enquiries?
  2. Where does the keyword list come from: my own Search Console data, or a tool?
  3. What happens in month one, specifically, and what will be live by the end of it?
  4. Who writes the pages, and how do you check a claim before publishing it?
  5. What does the monthly report contain when a month goes badly?
  6. Who covers the work if you are unavailable for three weeks?

Where Reputifly Sits

We are an agency, so the honest framing is above: if you need one defined job done, a freelancer may serve you better. What follows is what our programme covers when the answer is ongoing.

Our published result: one Reputifly client, first 16 months, no blog and no SEO before us — 0 to 6,250 clicks and 0 to 405K search impressions. Source: Google Search Console, Jul 2025 – Mar 2026, web search. That is one client's outcome, not a projection for yours.
