Landing Page Optimisation: Diagnose the Journey Before Redesigning

Reputifly editorial · Reviewed 27 September 2026 · 2 min read

A practical way to inspect an offer page, identify friction and test changes without assuming every visitor needs the same next step.

Start with the task

Landing page optimisation improves the journey from a particular entry point to a useful action. It can be the right priority when traffic already exists but visitors cannot understand the offer or complete an enquiry. SEO addresses discovery; neither discipline replaces the other.

Choose one audience and one task for the first review. For example: a business owner arriving from a website-design ad needs to understand scope, see relevant work and request a proposal.

Follow the journey in order

  1. Arrival: does the heading continue the promise in the ad, search result or referral?
  2. Understanding: can someone identify the service, its suitability and its limitations?
  3. Confidence: is the evidence relevant and attributable?
  4. Action: can the visitor enquire without unnecessary effort?
  5. Confirmation: do they know their request was received and what happens next?

Turn observations into testable changes

“The page needs more trust” is too vague to implement. A testable change is: “Place a relevant project example next to the quotation form because visitors currently leave the page to inspect our work.” Record the expected benefit and the metric you will examine.

Fix functional failures before running design experiments. A broken submit button, unreadable label or obscured mobile control does not need an A/B test to justify repair.

Judge enquiries, not only clicks

Track completed enquiries and their suitability. A larger button may attract more clicks without producing more useful conversations. Keep lead definitions stable while comparing results, and avoid declaring a winner from a handful of visits.
